Design of Learning Environments for CS using LA

The design of educational experiences using learning analytics is a new field.  The learning sciences focus on design and broad-based educational experiences for learnings and environments.

Designing for science learning involves the design of learning environments that support practices including arumentation, explanation, and the design of scientific investigations.  There are aspects of cognitive and social interaction with the scientific inquiry that require scaffolding principles and practices in tech tools, software, teaching practices and curriculum, and appropriate learning analytics.

In designing tech tools to scaffold the development of scientific discourse skills for citizen scientists, we must look at innovative learning environments, design arguments and research studies.  We need to address the design and enactment of the learning activities for the citizen scientist, the peer group support and/or mentors involved, and scientists interested in bridging the gap between the cultural scientific purview of their discipline with citizen scientists.

Looking at these new models of interactions between the learners and the learning environment using technology supports and learning analytics enable new cognitive and social roles for the citizen scientist learners as well as educators.
